15/05/2012 German election analysis Berlin, 15 May 2012: Only two years after the last state election, the citizens of North-Rhine-Westphalia were asked to vote again as the minority government of SPD and Greens did not get a majority for their budget in parliament. The Liberals declined to support a budget that was described as against the state constitution by the Con-stitutional Court of North Rhine-Westphalia. Political commentators describe North Rhine-Westphalia as the “chamber of Germany’s industrial heart”, home of not less than nine DAX companies. NRW has 13.2 million voters – as much as no other federal state and therewith gives a strong signal on what is the current trend in Germany as a whole. Download full article »
